DXF R12 opens in AutoCAD, LibreCAD, DraftSight, QCAD and Fusion. Need DWG? Open the DXF in AutoCAD and use Save As › DWG.

Trace

One line down the middle of each stroke — best for walls you’ll edit in CAD.

Higher counts lighter strokes as lines. Auto picks it from the image (Otsu’s method).

12 px

Drops dots and fills pinholes smaller than this.

1.2 px

Higher = fewer vertices, smoother lines.

Image to CAD: Pixels Become Lines

A JPG or PNG is a grid of pixels, so CAD can only show it as a picture. The converter finds the dark strokes and writes them as polylines with real vertices you can select, move, offset and trim. It all runs on your device: no upload, no account, no watermark.

Centerline or Outline Tracing

Centerline thins every stroke to one line down its middle, so a wall comes out as a single line, joined straight through T-junctions. Outline follows both edges of every stroke as closed shapes — double-line walls, logos and cut paths for a laser or CNC router.

Real Scale, Straight Walls

Type the real width of the image, or pick both ends of a wall you know and enter its length. Coordinates are written in mm, cm, m, inches or feet, and Straighten snaps lines within 5° of level or plumb to exactly 0° or 90°, so walls meet square.

The DXF (R12, the most widely read version) puts every line on a layer you name, as editable polylines or individual lines. Open it in AutoCAD and use Save As to get a DWG. An optional frame layer marks the image’s edges, so you can line up the original JPG underneath.

How to Convert JPG to DXF

About a minute from JPEG to CAD file, with nothing installed.

  1. 1

    Add your image

Drop, choose or paste a JPG, PNG or WebP up to 15 MB. Crop it to the drawing first; for a photo, shoot the sheet straight on in even light.

  2. 2

    Tune the trace

Pick Centerline for walls or Outline for shapes. Leave Threshold on Auto, raise Despeckle until stray dots disappear, and compare the result in the Split view.

  3. 3

    Set the scale and download

Enter the image width or pick two points along a known wall, choose the unit, then download the DXF. In AutoCAD, open it and Save As DWG if you need one.

What People Convert from JPG to CAD Drawing

  • Old plans of an existing home

Builder brochures, county records and scanned blueprints turn into a scaled DXF you can measure. Check the scale against one known wall before you take areas from it.

  • Remodel and redraw

Trace the current layout as a base in CAD, or skip the drafting: upload the same plan to the AI floor plan editor and describe the change you want.

  • Sketches into clean drawings

A napkin sketch traces into lines you can tidy in CAD. If you would rather start clean, generate a blueprint-style plan and use standard symbols.

FAQ

JPG to DXF and DWG Questions

Drop the JPG into the converter above, choose Centerline or Outline, set the scale and click Download DXF. The picture is traced into vector polylines in your browser and saved as a DXF that any CAD program opens.

DWG is Autodesk’s proprietary format, so this tool exports DXF instead. AutoCAD opens the DXF directly; use Save As and pick a DWG version. Without AutoCAD, DraftSight, BricsCAD or the free ODA File Converter can also turn DXF into DWG.

If you only want the JPEG in the DWG as a backdrop, attach it in AutoCAD with IMAGEATTACH; it stays pixels. To get lines you can edit, trace the JPG here, download the DXF and insert it. Turn on the image frame layer to line the two up.

Yes, if the photo is of a drawing taken straight on. Crop it to the sheet, turn on Even out lighting to flatten shadows and raise Despeckle. Photos taken at an angle trace with skewed lines, so straighten or crop them in a photo editor first.

Yes. It is free with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit, because the work happens on your own device. PNG, JPG and WebP files up to 15 MB are accepted; for a PNG to DWG, save the DXF as DWG in AutoCAD.

Use this page as a JPEG to AutoCAD converter: trace the image with the scale set, then open the DXF in AutoCAD (or insert it into an existing drawing). Check UNITS matches the unit you chose, list a known line to confirm the scale, and clean up any extra lines.

Treat it as a trace, not a measured drawing. It is as accurate as the image: a scan is better than a photo, and a skewed photo distorts every line. Verify key dimensions on site before ordering materials or applying for a permit.

No. Everything dark becomes lines, so text and dimension figures come out as outlines and hatching as many short strokes. Raise Despeckle to drop small marks, then delete what you do not need in CAD and add real text and dimensions there.
